Matthew chapter 20 verses 2934 in the NIV translation reads like this.

As Jesus and his disciples were leaving Jericho, a large crowd followed him.

Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted,

Lord, son of David, have mercy on us. The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet,

but they shouted all the louder.

Lord, son of David, have mercy on us.

And Jesus stopped and called them.

What do you want me to do for you?

He asked.

Lord, they answered, we want our sight.

And Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes.

Immediately they received their sight and followed him. This is the word of the Lord.

So today marks the first of four weeks of Advent when we count down the weeks until the arrival, or the Adventist of Jesus, born into our world as a small baby boy.

And one of the most famous and quoted verses associated with Advent in the Christmas season is found in Isaiah 9.

It reads, for to us, a child is born.

To us, a son is given.

To us a child, a baby is born.

But not only is a baby born into the world, although we often just put the baby in the manger and then forget about him,

that child grows up into a son that's given to us
