Welcome back to The Daily Poem here on the Close Reeds Podcast Network. I'm David Kern. And today is the day

when we are going to be bringing you the winners of our most recent poetry contest among our younger

listeners. We divided up entries into three groups. So this was a very challenging thing to try to figure

out how to break it up. But what we've decided is we'll break it up among students six and younger,

seven to 11, and then 12 and older. There's no great way to do this, but that's what we're going to do

for right now. So first I'm going to bring you our

winner for the youngest group, and that is Molly Grubbs, who did a lovely rendition of Sing Hey for the Bath

at Close of Day. She's six years old, and here she is. Sing hay for the bath at close of day that washes the weary mud away.

A loon is he that will not sing.

A water hut is a noble thing.

Oh sweet is the sound of falling rain and the brook that leaps from hill to plain.

But better than rain rippling streams Is water hot that smokes and steams

Oh water cold we may pour

A-kneyed on a thirsty throat

And we glad indeed

But better is milk if drink we lack

And water hot pour down the deck

O water is fair that leaps on high in a fountain white beneath the sky.

But never did fountains sound so sweet as flashing hot water with my feet.

All right. So for our middle age group, we have, we actually have a three-way tie, and we got three entries from the Gaunt family, Evelyn, Arnold, and Beatrice.

And we just figured, you know, it's one prize. We'll give them one prize to share, but we will let them tie on this one because we had a hard time differentiating, choosing
