Hello and welcome to best laid plans. This is your host, Sarah Hart Unger, and this is the podcast where we talk all things planning and planning adjacent. So I know last week I talked about doing a Q&A episode for May today. I haven't done a Q&A

0:22.7

in a few weeks and I do have some great questions lined up. However, it occurred to me that

0:27.8

this episode is airing on my birthday and that doesn't happen very often, probably on average

0:33.2

about once every seven years since there are seven days of the week and our episodes are on Monday.

0:38.2

And so I felt like I had to seize this opportunity to do something a little bit different

0:42.3

with this theme and mind. And so today is going to be a bit of a top five episode in honor of

0:48.6

my birthday. Maybe that's a little bit self-indulgent, but I hope that it is going to be fun

0:53.4

listening for you guys as well. We're going to get a little bit self-indulgent, but I hope that it is going to be fun listening for you guys as

0:54.9

well. We're going to get a little bit deeper into what I love about planning, why I plan, what I

1:00.7

consider the five essential elements of planning, and then at the end, I'm going to share my top

1:06.6

five goals for my 45th year on this planet. Yes, I'm turning 44, so that means this will be my

1:13.2

45th year. I'm a 1980 baby. I'm sure that sounds really, really old to some of you listening

1:18.8

and really, really young to others of you listening. I am very grateful to have a wide range

1:23.7

of ages listening to this podcast. It would be fun to maybe figure out who the youngest

1:28.0

and oldest listener is. So if you think that you might exist on either end of that spectrum,

1:34.3

please send me a note. I think this would be really, really cool to report back on.

1:38.5

But yeah, my guess is that I am somewhere in the middle. I hope that means that I'm young

1:43.3

and flexible enough to have new and

1:44.9

cool ideas, plus my kids keep me pretty young, but old enough to have some experience to share.

1:50.8

All right. So with that, we're going to get into the top five reasons why I plan. All right,

1:57.8

and these are not in any order, by the way. I just came up with five in each category.

2:01.7

So here we go.
