Hello and welcome to a very special episode of the Cineophiles.

0:10.6

We are honoring the great Val Kilmer by re-releasing one of his most important movies,

0:16.1

and that is Top Gun.

0:17.0

My name is Steve Morris.

0:18.0

I'm a filmmaker and directing instructor in Los Angeles, California.

0:21.1

Oh, I'm feeling the need for speed. This is the outlaw, John Roker, here, writer, producer,

0:25.5

and host and voiceover artist in San Diego, California. And Steve, we're sadly doing a tribute to,

0:31.4

I mean, you know, one of the best actors ever over the last few decades of our lives, man, really.

0:37.7

I mean, honestly, the moment I saw the news, and it frankly wasn't unexpected news.

1:11.7

especially when you're a certain kind of actor, you look for those actors that are interesting,

1:17.1

unique, challenging, artistic, creative, and they just marched to a different drum. And that's

1:24.2

what I've always gravitated to. And there was something about Val Kilmer.

1:28.2

There was something about the way he played Iceman with that cocksure confidence, but still able to be

1:33.7

vulnerable at the end when he says, you can be my wingman anytime. There's something about

1:38.1

the playfulness of top secret. The in on the joke, Mad Mardikin and Willow. There's something to be sitting back in awe of in your 20s when you watch him play

1:48.4

Jim Morrison in the doors.

1:50.4
