Mark Sison, welcome to the podcast, been a big fan of yours, still am for many years now.

0:06.5

I want to start off with something on the topic of longevity specifically supplements.

0:11.5

Okay. You've been pretty vocal over the last couple years that you've almost altogether removed the majority of supplements out of your diet.

0:21.0

Yeah. Number one, I'm curious why why but first before we get to that I want to talk about one

0:25.6

supplement you haven't removed and in fact this is something that you've double downed on and that's

0:30.8

collagen. Let's start off with collagen. Why have you doubled down at that?

0:34.7

Well, you know, I look at nutrition really holistically but also from an evolutionary lens, an evolutionary perspective, and for most of human evolution,

0:45.8

we consumed most of the animal that we killed.

0:49.6

And by the way, we, you know, this is all predicated on the assumption that we are carnivores or at least omnivores.

1:15.9

skin hair, nails, bones, connective tissue, you know, fascia, tendons, ligaments, cartilage, etc.

1:23.8

So these parts of our body need raw materials

1:28.8

to grow and repair over time.

1:31.5

And so over the millennia millennia we've been consuming

1:34.7

animal products which contain these gelatinous collagenous materials

1:39.6

no problem and over the again over the years we you know we incorporated

1:45.6

whether it was bone broth or chicken skin or fish skin or just gnawing on on the bones and

1:52.3

the grisly parts of bones.

1:55.0

We got these raw materials and we were able to rebuild this,

1:58.0

you know, tenants and ligaments and repair them when they got damaged.
