0:08.0 | Well, we have to start with that big event. It's right in the middle of the century, |
0:12.0 | 1054, and the great schism, the split between the church and the east and the church in the west. |
0:19.0 | This all comes down to a little phrase, filioque, and the sun. |
0:26.0 | A phrase that was added by bishops in the west to the Nicene Creed. |
0:30.0 | The bishops in the east rejected this phrase, thought that the western bishops were tinkering |
0:36.0 | with these great creeds of the faith and used that as a reason to split. |

0:44.0 | The filioque clause was just simply what was above the surface. |

1:19.0 | King Edward the Confessor was the son of Ethel Red, the unready. |
1:24.0 | Ethel Red means well advised. |
1:26.0 | Unready doesn't necessarily mean unprepared. |
1:29.0 | It really means poor advise. So his name was a little bit of a pun. |
1:32.0 | Well advised, poor advised. |
1:34.0 | Well, good old Ethel Red the unready, died in 1016. |
