Bernhardt Tied the 2nd was born on August 2nd, 1958, to a father of the same name who, a native

of the Ukraine and of German descent, immigrated to the United States as a child in 1926.

He and his wife married in 1957, and the following year, young Bernhardt, later called Bernie, was born.

Tragedy struck the family, however, when just two years after his birth, his mother, Lila Mae Jester, was killed in a car accident.

Bernhardt, Sr. spent the next three years raising his son on his own, until 1963 when he married a woman named Clara Catherine Wiley.
