President Donald Trump has lashed out at Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell and is calling for

his termination. His comments on social media come a day after the central bank chief

delivered a frank warning about the impact of Trump's tariffs on the economy.

The level of tariff increases announced so far is significantly larger than anticipated,

and the same is likely to be true of the economic effects, which will include higher inflation

and slower growth.

And Trump is unhappy at the speed at which Powell is cutting interest rates, saying the

U.S. is lagging behind its European counterpart, which

this morning announced its lowering rates for the seventh time this year.

But Powell has said the central bank will never be influenced by political pressure.

People can say whatever they want, that's fine.

That's not a problem.

But we will do what we do strictly without consideration of political or any other extraneous factors.

Antis noted that removing a Fed chair is, quote, not permitted under the law.

And he intends to serve out the rest of his term, which doesn't end until May next year.
