In less than 100 days, the UK hosts COP26 in Glasgow, but as the UK gears up to host this

pivotal conference on climate change described by John Kerry as the last best chance to act,

our domestic

politics is looking increasingly difficult and divided on the issue.

The consensus that Net Zero by 2050 should be a political and spending priority of the government

is beginning to fray at the seams, from the backbenchers to the very top of government.

The Chancellor has yet to publish the long-awaited Treasury Net Zero review, and there's

been rumours of disagreements about the funding available for green projects and key

decarbonisation strategies head of the autumn comprehensive spending review.

One of those strategies, the heat and building strategy, currently remains stuck in the machinery

of government.

It is seen as politically difficult and has been marred by leaks and hostile briefings, particularly

around the phase out of gas boilers, and changes to how we heat our homes.

Heat pumps have been the go-to example people use when talking about the cost of net zero,

a lightning roll for attacks, with prices being quoted in the media anywhere between £8,000

£20,000.

Although old boilers are unlikely to be mandated to be replaced for at least 15 years,

this has become an urgent problem for the

government to deal with today, having promised to set out how it intends to reach net zero

as part of the wide-ranging net zero strategy ahead of COP26. The world is watching and looking to the
