In this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast, we speak with actor Tye Sheridan (THE ORDER, READY PLAYER ONE, MUD). Coming out of rural east Texas, Tye reflects on getting his start as a child actor on THE TREE OF LIFE and MUD, and we discuss the type of personality it takes to deal with the transient life of a filmmaker. Tye is also the co-founder of Wonder Dynamics, which currently offers an AI-based performance capture solution for filmmakers without a large VFX budget, and we discuss the company’s origins and how the technology actually works. Tye later recounts the casting process for READY PLAYER ONE that ended with him nerding out with director Steven Spielberg over E.T., and we discuss the working conditions of independent films that have made them so attractive Tye as an actor. We also discuss Tye’s experience working on THE ORDER, and we end the episode reflecting on the evolution of the industry in the digital age.

1:18.8	appreciate it. We'd love to start with the first question, which is always, how did you get to
1:24.8	where you are today? Is this something that you knew you wanted to be,
1:28.6	or did you go down another completely different path beforehand?
1:34.3	Well, I knew I was always into stories. I love stories. And since I was a kid, you know,
1:39.4	we would go and hang out at someone's house. and I would always find myself hanging out with the
1:44.7	adults and listening to all the stories that they were telling. But I never knew anything about film.
1:49.2	I grew up in a really small town in East Texas, and so we were always outside and didn't really grow up
1:57.0	watching many films. And so I kind of got introduced to the world of film. I was going to a
2:02.3	small public school in my hometown. My hometown is called Elkhart, Texas. The population is 1,200.
2:08.5	It said, a really small school. And I was going to school there. I was in fourth grade.
