A couple of weeks before Christmas, a man called Richard Evans contacted a

potential client about sponsoring a networking event in Parliament. The event he was talking about

was to be held in a function room overlooking the Thames and hosted by his father, Lord David

Evans of Watford, a multi-millionaire donor to the Labour Party, who was elevated to the

Lords by Tony Blair in the 1990s.

He was trying to get the client to sponsor the event for £25,000.

But, Richard suggested, the event was only the start.

Afterwards, he suggested in a voice memo, the client would get access to ministers in a committee room in a meeting attended by his dad.

I have to be incredibly sensitive the subjects we're talking about because we're moving from sponsoring an event to arranging a committee room.

At the time, Richard knew it didn't look great.

Can you imagine if the press got hold of that?

It's got nothing to do with my father anyway, in the sense of me organizing it all.
