Music Hey there. I'm Kristen Sevy, and this is a murder-she-told update.

So back in July of 2023, I brought you a revamped episode on the case of Danielle Bertolini,

a childhood friend of mine who grew up in Maine and was murdered in California in 2014.

Along with that episode, I shared the petition I created to keep public interest and pressure alive.

I didn't want to see this case collecting dust.

So about a week ago, the Fortuna Police Department released an update on her case that gives me the most hope that justice is around the corner.

To this day, my interview with Danielle's mom, Billy Joe, remains one of the most

heartbreaking, honest, and raw interviews that has ever been featured on murder she told.

It is so incredibly powerful. My first update is that since the release of that episode,

Daniel's remains have finally been released by the medical examiner's

office. So what's been recovered of her is finally home in Maine where she belongs. The second is that

the Fortuna Police Department has stated, after new information came in, they are officially

reopening the investigation into Daniel's death. Now, the case has never

officially been closed, per se. So my interpretation is that they're turning up the heat on her

case and giving the investigation a renewed look, hence the term reopening. But whatever the case may
