Update.

John Blavelt is in custody.

In early 2022, the US Marshalls dedicated a cold and complex case investigative team to

search for 33-year-old John Blavelt, who was profiled in our episode Recruiter on the

run.

This team was able to locate the fugitive in Medford, Oregon, where he was using the

alias Ben Klein.

Blavelt was arrested without incident and will be extradited to South Carolina to face

charges for the murder of Katie Boyd or Blavelt.

During a press conference the day after the arrest, Katie's mother Patricia Piver made a statement

to media and it was clear that she still finds it difficult to talk about her daughter's

murder.

Losing your child is just unbearable.

We just, you know, heart-to-new John did it.

But then when he ran, our heart sunk.

And then when he just disappeared off the face of the map, months turned into years and

now five and a half years, you do lose hope and you just got to find something to hold

on to.

But then getting that call yesterday, I'm still shaking.

It was just the most amazing phone call I could have ever gotten.

Katie's sister, Brandy Blackwell, stated, justice isn't served yet.

We need him to be found guilty for closure.
