Becoming a mother is life-changing,

mentally, spiritually and physically.

This momentous change is something that has affected and intrigued writer, teacher and walker Kerry Andrews. In her latest book, Pathfinding, on Walking

Motherhood and Freedom, Kerry weaves her own often traumatic and difficult experience of

motherhood with that of accounts of women who also write about walking

and motherhood. Postpartum walking can be rife with difficulties, from the physical changes incurred

by birth to a lack of opportunity, not to mention an unspoken set of societal expectations around

risk and responsibility.

I met up with Kerry at the former home of Sir Walter Scott, Abbotsford, in the Scottish borders.

As we wound our way along the pathways close to the River Tweed, Kerry gave me a very honest account of her experience with walking.
