Welcome to another episode of Why You Laughing, a history of comedy podcast.

And today, I am pleased to introduce to you Saturday Night Live's weekend update,

a legendary, a staple of one of the longest running shows in television history.

Saturday Night Live, of course, going on its 50th season next year.

They're celebrating their 50th anniversary,

and weekend update is the longest running bit or whatever you want to call it on that show.

There's only one episode in 1984 that some form of weekend update hasn't appeared.

Now, weekend update is going through some changes, which we'll talk about as well.

But we'll talk about all the different variations of weekend update and why it's been such a staple on that program.

So we will be getting into that today.

And a couple notes on previous episodes.
