Hello and welcome to this special election resolves episode of Calling Peston, and what an episode we have for you.

I'm your host, Shehab Khan, and as the Robin to my Batman isn't here today, I'm going to do things a bit differently.

I've got two special guests with me for this entire episode.

ITV's political editor Robert Peston and our Scotland correspondent, Peter Smith,

as we discuss what has been a fairly interesting couple of days.

So where do we stand at the moment? In England, the Tories won the by-election in Hartlepool,

winning in the constituency for the first time in their history.

They've also gained councils and councillors across the country while the Labour Party have suffered badly.

In Scotland, it is Nicola Sturgeon who is hailing a historic victory, as the cause for an

independence referendum now only grows stronger.

And in Wales, Labour will remain in power for another five years after they match their best ever election result.

Robert, days like this and election night results days are what we live for as political reporters.

How do you get through those days? How do you power through as you're staying up through the night as the results come in?

I mean, you have you know this because you'll be in the same position, which is, you know,

you do this job because, you know, you're an addict for these things or, you know, one is

an obsessive about them. So the adrenaline flows, you know, you're an addict for these things or, you know, one is an obsessive about them. So

the adrenaline flows, you know, you're waiting for the next, uh, installment of a developing

story. It's just completely gripping. I mean, I am somebody who in general also

needs coffee to get through any working day. My coffee consumption

though doesn't have to go up on these occasions because it's just all so exciting. You know,

it's a treat to be doing it. Peter, what about you? What's your poison of choice to get you through?
