The day Russia invaded Ukraine, all schools in the city of Harkiv closed.

But what parent could send their children to school in that environment?

At first, the kids attended classes online.

But it soon became clear that this war had no end in sight.

And if we learned nothing from a global pandemic, it's that online learning has its limits.

So it was time to get creative.

Ihor Terakoff, the mayor of Harkiv, is an engineer by trade and was uniquely positioned

to draft solutions. Some of the safest places in Ukraine's second largest city are its underground

subway stations, and soon they would become home to the city's schools.

I had to be able to the city's schools.

I was about them and said,

David's, your daughter's a daughter's

a home.

She's going to a first school,

she's not with whom to speak.
