To her peers, Candy Montgomery seemed to have it all. She was the picture-perfect housewife,

and a popular figure within her community of Wiley, Texas. A doting mother of two, she effortlessly

balanced her domestic duties, her social life, and her image at the first United Methodist Church

of Lucas. But beneath the surface was a woman with wandering eyes, looking outside of her

unsatisfying marriage. During a church volleyball game, Candy caught a glimpse and a whiff of her fellow

churchgoer Alan Gore. Alan was married to Candy's friend, Betty,

still that didn't stop Candy from proposing the idea of an affair to Alan. For almost a year,

the pair would lunch and rendezvous at the Como Motel in Richardson, Texas. However, following the birth

of his second daughter, Alan ended the affair and focused on

improving his marriage with Betty. Candy did the same with her marriage, and before long,

life as normal soon returned. That is, until the night of Friday the 13th, 1980.

Alan Gore spoke those words to Candy Montgomery,

who had been watching their daughter, Alyssa,

during a sleepover with her child.

Alan was out of town for a business trip and was unable to reach Betty that fateful day.

When she failed to return any of his calls, Alan asked his neighbors to check on his wife

and make sure she was okay. As they arrived at the Gore residence, they uncovered a ghastly

scene. Betty was dead on the floor of her utility room, covered in pools of thick black blood.

Neighbors initially believed Betty had been shot due to the high volume of blood at the scene.
