Oh, I'm excited to be here, Caitlin.

This is Dr. Deborah Harsma.

She is an astrophysicist, an author, and the president of Biologos, a Christian organization that promotes better discourse on science and religion. I'm really excited that we have

you to answer this question. We often have theologians, biblical scholars. And this is a question

that theologians, biblical scholars might have some ideas about, but certainly not the depth of ideas that you have about this. So let's hear our kid question for today.

I understand why God made the earth and the sun and moon, but why did he make the other planets?

Yeah, which I'm impressed. This little child feels like they understand why God made the Earth and the Sun.

I'm not sure I fully understand.

But what is just your initial reaction to this question?

When you hear a little kid say something like this, what do you think?

Oh, I love the curiosity of little kids.

And, you know, in that kindergarten, early elementary age, they are so excited about other planets.

They know about Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, all these, you know, big, exciting planets.

And those are not mentioned in Scripture. So it's a fair question. You know, in Genesis,
