This is Olivier Bancoo.

He's lived in Mauritius for over 50 years, but he was born 2,000 kilometres further east across the Indian Ocean, on Peros

Bagnos, one of the atolls that makes up the Chegos Islands.

I've left Chegos in 1968.

Oh, it's been like something that's attached to my heart.

We are surrounded with a sea, with many fish.

We have lots of coconut trees.

We can create jobs.

The islands were once part of Mauritius,

and all part of a colony,

which was ruled over for more than a century by the British.
