Kea Starmer is trying to work out how Britain responds if a peace deal is agreed for Ukraine.

On Monday, he rushed to Paris to meet other European leaders.

While thousands of miles away, Russian and US officials were sitting down

together. Frozen out of those talks, Starmat wanted to show he'd do whatever it takes to

support Ukraine, including sending British troops. But he made it clear he'd need Trump's help.

There must be a US backstop,

because a US security guarantee

is the only way to effectively deter Russia

from attacking Ukraine again.

To me, Russia from attacking Ukraine again. To meet Starmes demands, Britain would need to recruit tens of thousands more people

to the armed forces and up its defence budget by billions of pounds per year.

Changes that can't happen quickly or easily.
