Today I'm talking to author Will Kostagas about his new book, The Sidekicks,

and about what happens when a close friend dies.

Will is also Australian, and we talk about the Australian postal vote for a same-sex marriage,

and then I know that the rest of the world pays attention to the United States

and what our current administration is doing,

but I was just kind of struck in talking to Will by how closely they pay attention and to the level of detail, to be quite honest.

based on your life. How old were you? So it was between

10th and 11th grades. So he passed away quite suddenly during the summer break. And so I was one of

those people who believed in having one solid best friend, the exclusion of all others. So, you know,

we would do everything together. We would go

everywhere together, things like that. And not only did we have this really tight shared history,

but we'd imagined, you know, our shared future, I was going to be a world famous author. And he was

either going to be my agent or my biggest groupie. And we were going to tour the world until eventually,
