This week, we are continuing our series on Lent and Easter, the seasons in the church calendar where we reflect on our sin, practice repentance, and celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

and look forward to our resurrection.

Today, we're talking about resurrection, finally.

We've spent many weeks talking about death and suffering and the crucifixion,

and now we enter into a season in the church calendar, where we spend more days

talking about resurrection and hope and perfect justice and peace than the number of days we

spent talking about death and sin. This week, we don't just celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.

We look forward to our own resurrection. I recorded this conversation with Dr. Malcolm Foley a few

weeks ago, but I didn't realize just how important it would be until I was teaching the children

in my church just a couple days ago on Easter Sunday. I had taught the kids the story of Palm Sunday,

the story of Jesus' arrest, the story of the crucifixion,

and we'd finally got into the part where God makes Jesus alive again. And we spent some time

together wondering about the miracle that Jesus rose from the dead. And as we talked about Jesus

appearing to his disciples and having conversations like the one he had with some of his disciples walking on the road to Emmaus,

the kids kept asking similar questions.

But Jesus was more like a ghost than a real person, right?

Maybe they didn't recognize Jesus because he was like a ghost. Will we see a ghost like Jesus?

Now listen, my kids are very smart.

Half of them have parents with theology PhDs.

And even they misunderstood something crucial about the resurrection.
