section of the Bible. Okay, so we're stepping back into the English Reformation and William Tindale.

And just to give you this introductory thought, the Reformation took place in different nations and in different places.

It began really in Germany with Martin Luther and there's the German

reformation. We're in the 16th century. It's the greatest event to ever happen in the

church since the beginning of the church in the first century.

So you have Martin Luther in the German Reformation and at the same time the Swiss

reformation is starting. A man named Ulrich Zwingley in Zurich. And then it

spread to Geneva, John Calvin, and it was hitting other cities, Basil and other cities in Switzerland as well,

which was really a confederation of little city states. Switzerland had not really been unified yet as one nation.

And the Reformation was also spreading to Scotland.

John Knox, a giant of a man, took the reformation to Scotland.

There is also, and it's often overlooked, the English Reformation.

And as you and I speak the English language and we're downstream from the English coming to settle the colonies.

We are the direct descendants of the English Reformation. And so it's important I think that we understand

who our forefathers were in the faith.

And the man who is at the tip of the spear, the man who is at the very beginning of the headwaters

of the English Reformation was William Tindale.

To understand the story of William Tindale is really to understand the birthing of the English

Reformation.
