0:34.0

We're going to talk with Missouri Senator Josh Hawley. But if you have not been following the chaos that has been building around the NBA throughout the entire weekend beginning with Friday.

0:47.0

Let me give you a quick recap of exactly what happened and explain why it matters on Friday. The Senator from Missouri the junior Senator sent a letter to Adam silver asking why there were allowed certain statements to be made on jerseys among them a statement that would not be allowed was free Hong Kong support our troops back the blue God bless America things like that.

1:16.0

And one of the questions that Senator Hawley asked was if a player chooses to display a message of support for victims of the Chinese Communist Party on their jersey will the NBA allow the player to wear their jersey or will it censor that player in order to avoid drawing Beijing's iron.

1:36.0

And as well, how does the NBA plan to defend NBA players and employees against retaliation by the Chinese Communist Party if they choose to speak out against the party's actions in Hong Kong or elsewhere.

1:48.0

Is the NBA public prepared to publicly condemned any attempt by the Chinese Communist Party to silence or punish these individuals.

1:57.0

And remember this is all building out of Houston Rockets General Manager Darrell Moray's free Hong Kong endorsement.

2:04.0

If you're not familiar with what's going on in the world China is right now taking over Hong Kong which used to be a free democratic republic that was ruled by the British until the late 1990s China has taken it over they have eliminated the right to protest they are resting anyone who protests in favor of democracy.

2:24.0

They are pulling library books out of the library if they reference democracy they are basically invading and taking over Hong Kong.

2:35.0

As a result this is an incredibly tenuous and massively important moment in United States Chinese relations right now China if you had to pick any country in the world is depriving more people of human rights.

2:53.0

Than any country in our lifetime there are over a billion people in China who don't have basic human rights they don't have freedom of religion in fact if you are Muslim right now in China they are putting you in concentration camps they have forced sterilization.

3:10.0

They have limited for much of their existence how many children you can have they don't have basic freedom of speech they don't have freedom of worship they don't have basic human rights.

3:20.0

And you might say why does that matter well if the NBA is willing to criticize America and rip us to the high heavens for our flaws how in the world can they take billions of dollars in money from China and in any way claim to be an organization that cares about social justice this is the height of hypocrisy that's what the Missouri senators letter was referencing well he sent that letter out and he sent it to China.

3:49.0

And he sent it to a lot of different media members two minutes after he received that letter that I just read from you about the Missouri senator wanting the NBA commissioner Adam silver to answer questions by the way Adam silver just recently said that the NBA had respect for Chinese values let me repeat that.

4:11.0

NBA commissioner Adam silver said the league had mutual respect for Chinese values so the NBA said they respect concentration camps they respect no human rights they respect pulling books out of libraries that have to do with democracy all of that they said they respect put simply that is untenable there is no way that you can claim to care about social justice in the United States while taking billions of dollars for the world.

4:41.0

So let me just put it to you this way if you had to historically analogize a country in the modern era that was the most like Nazi Germany it would be China that has billions of people in it certainly North Korea has all sorts of issues but North Korea has no power they don't have any ability to actually go out and take over other parts of the world that's what China is trying to do with Hong Kong that's what they want to do with China.

5:11.0

Adam silver gets that letter addressed to him two minutes after he receives it at his email address at ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski responds F you that's the entire email to a sitting United States senator for asking that the NBA media actually hold NBA players coaches and the league accountable for their hypocrisy as it pertains to China.

5:41.0

This is a hypocrisy that began in earnest back in October when the NBA apologized effectively for one of its general manager saying that he believed in democracy in Hong Kong since that time Hong Kong has lost its democracy and many people haven't noticed because of the coronavirus which China also caused which is now spreading throughout the world.

6:06.0

The Chinese are I believe right now a threat to the United States they want to dominate the globe they want their way of life a communist dictatorship to be the future of the world.

6:21.0

We need I believe in America to be standing up to them not providing them with all sorts of propaganda about how bad America is which is what the NBA is doing.
