Striker Meyer. I'll be your host today. I'm joined by Chad our technician, our

parachute qualified specialist here. I want to start right off with the book. A voice

drifted through the greenery of a handler talking to his dog. Then I heard a

soothing sound that warm autumn breezes make over brown leaves. No breeze stirred

the trees. I pictured dozens of enemy trouser legs brushing against the undergrowth.

Two soldiers appeared out of the shrubs and I heard heavy movement around us.

Noy and Ken engaged them. Both went down. I heard a shout and the sound of several men

crashing through the brush. To my side, three NBA in mustard-keller uniforms rose and began to

shoot at me. I returned fire and two went down. I was out of ammunition. Reach for a new magazine.

The enemy had 8K-47s with their 30-round magazines. While we men in Recon still only had 20-round

magazines. I practiced magazine drills hundreds of times and could change magazines in two seconds.

But in those two seconds, I faced an enemy who still had 10 rounds in his weapon. He fired on

four automatic, several rounds hit my hand as it reached for a magazine. My middle finger hung

by a piece of skin. The fingernails and ends of the other three fingers were shot off

and the knuckle of my index finger was shot away. The hanging finger got in the way.

I glanced down and saw the problem. Then I used the tip of my little finger and my thumb

to insert a new magazine. Several of us shot at the third man at the same time and he went down.
