This is the Bamaapodcast with Marty Salman. I'm his co-host, Brent Billings. Today we continue our

0:11.7

verse by verse examination of the Gospel of Matthew by dealing with the Sabbath and rabbinical arguments

0:17.1

surrounding Torah. These next two episodes are as reminded why I never have done verse by verse

0:23.5

because there are some stories that I'm just not as prepared for. So it was always nice to just

0:28.0

kind of skip those and go on to the ones where I was really solid. But we've made a commitment to

0:32.9

our listeners, dang it. So I think we've got plenty to talk about in this episode. I'm pretty

0:37.4

this episode titled Donkeys and Rabbis and boy that there's a lot tied up in those two words.

0:42.4

I am pretty sure we're gonna have plenty to say. I think maybe when I don't have things to say,

0:49.1

I talk even more so. That is probably true. I'm noticing that about my son. My son is at the doctor's

0:55.9

office. He had to get, we were called by the nurse. They said your kids are short one shot. They

1:01.6

need to get a shot. Oh, okay. Forgot about that apparently. So I went in to do that. My son is

1:06.9

nervous. This all get out and he is just chatty, Kathy in the doctor's office.

1:12.0

Nervous talker. Let's get it from me, apparently. All right, Brent, we are in Matthew 12. We're

1:17.7

gonna do the first half of Matthew 12. I think that's 21 verses we're gonna do. How much you,

1:23.2

how much you read it's the first eight or so. At that time Jesus went through the grain fields

1:28.4

on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them.

1:33.0

When the Pharisees saw this, they said, him, look, your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the

1:37.5

Sabbath. All right, I'm gonna let you get eight verses in. We're gonna cut that short right there.

1:41.2

So that seems pretty ambitious. A lot of context swirling around about this. So they're walking

1:47.6

through the field on Shabbat, which is totally fine as long as they're, you know, not outside the

1:52.5

song is there within that mile to two mile radius that was determined in their rabbinical world to

1:58.0

be within the city limits. They can be walking around as much as they want. Nothing wrong with that.
