Hello there, this is Sam, and this is episode 111 of the VictorPrep Vokapp podcast.

And I'm going to start today by reading a poem.

And this is a poem by a guy called Patrick Shaw Stewart called, I saw a man this morning.

And I found this poem because I'd been reading the Iliad in Odyssey, and this poem was

recommended as being kind of influenced by the Iliad.

And so I read this poem when I loved it, and so I wanted to read it out loud.

And I also read an amazing book, which I really, really recommend, which is Goodbye To All

that, by Robert Graves, and it's a First World War memoir.

And in general, I got into a bit of an obsessive streak of reading about the First World War,

and reading various memoirs and war poetry.

And so I will read this poem, and then talk a little bit about it.

So this is a, I saw a man this morning by Patrick Shaw Stewart.

And Agile, I've changed my mind, and I'm going to say a little bit about Patrick Shaw Stewart.

And this poem, before I read the poem, because I think it's better this way around.

So in the First World War, there was a campaign called the Gallipoli campaign.

And Patrick's short Stewart was one of the soldiers that fought in the Gallipoli campaign,

which was a particularly brutal and dangerous campaign in the First World War.

And in general, in the First World War, many soldiers, I'm not going to say most,

because I don't know for sure.

But from what I understand, many soldiers were fairly sure they were going to die.

Not 100% sure, but pretty sure that by the end of the war, they would be dead.

And Patrick Shaw Stewart was certainly one of these men.
