So I think, should we start with kind of the origins of the movie, which kind of go back to 1963?

Well, I think one of the amazing things about a hard day's night

is that this very British film, with these very British guys set,

ostensibly Liverpool and London, but you can't really tell.

But filmed in London primarily, this very, very English archetypal English film

is essentially American in creation.

The film company United Artists are American, the producer Walter Shenson is American,

and the director Richard Lester is American.

So it's in American hands creatively and yet it's so English.

And it really came about in October 63 when actually a little earlier than that, United Artists had a music division in London.

And a man there called Noel Rogers felt that they could get the publishing on some Beatles songs

if they find a vehicle, like a film vehicle, for them to appear in.
