On this week's episode, we have three stories that I really think you'll enjoy.

I'm an archaeologist investigating an ancient horror, written by Brian Maycock.

We had an hour left on site before the developer moved in.

I was crouched over, scraping away the soil around a bone and wishing that I had more time.

This bone had lain buried for more than 600 years and rushing the excavation of it could compromise the information it held

about the people who lived here then. But there was a problem. At midday, the small team of archaeologists

that I was leading had to clear out so the diggers could move in.

A new high-end tolled tow was to be built on this plot of land in East London, and delaying the

start of this was not an option. The contract that I had signed to gain permission to dig on

the site for 10 days included a clause that the university I worked for would be held liable for any financial losses incurred.

I would also likely lose my job at some point on the line, if that happened.

I had shaken the corporate devil's hand and there would be a price to pay if things went wrong.

In the here and now, the bone was still firmly embedded in the ground, and the postgraduate

students who were meant to be finishing safely, packing up the samples we had already

removed were clearly panicking, feeling the pressure of the deadline.

I could hear the raised voices drifting from the

purdy cabin that was on our temporary HQ, and I could hear the guttural sound of

machinery being started up nearby. The diggers were warming up, and they would use

clawed steel to remove the soil and not a small trowl. I took a deep breath and kept scraping. I decided that I would

give it another 20 minutes and, successful or not, I would get to my feet, try and ignore the
