Today we will discuss someone described as the "spiritual leader" of alleged murders Chad Daybell and Lori Vallow, alleged abuser Tim Ballard, and recently-imprisoned Jodi Hildebrandt.
Thom Harrison is a prominent Utah therapist who published a book called "Visions of Glory" in 2012, focusing on three of his alleged near death experiences (including personal visitations from Jesus Christ). As has been uncovered over the past few years, Thom Harrison' and his book "Visions of Glory" have been highly influential across the Mormon "prepper" neo-fundamentalist community, and particularly in the lives and stories of Chad Daybell, Lori Vallow, Tim Ballard, Jodi Hildebrant, as well as other "preppers" such as Julie Rowe, Rod Meldrum, and alleged abuser-therapist Maurice Harker.
Part of what has made Visions of Glory so successful is that Thom (through the pseudonym Spencer) claims in his book that his visions were approved of by an un-named Mormon apostle (who now is known to be the late Neal A. Maxwell).
Finally, we will discuss how the Mormon church was made aware of Thom Harrison and his book in the 2012-2013 time period, and chose to promote Thom to bishop instead of to punish him and/or stop the publishing of his book.
Lauren Matthias (Hidden True Crime Podcast), Megan Connor (Lori Vallow's cousin), and Mindy Caldwell (Mormon super-sluether) will be joining us for this panel discussion.

0:00.0 | Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Mormon Stories podcast. I am one of your hosts for today John Delin. It is October 17th, 2023. |
0:10.0 | And I am beyond excited to be here with you today with an illustrious epic star panel to be discussing the topic of visions of glory, the book. |
0:24.0 | And the author of the book, the secret author of the book, Utah Mormon therapist, Tom Harrison. I'll be introducing the illustrious panel in just a second. |
0:36.0 | But the way I want to begin, I want to begin by setting the context for those who are joining us for the first time who haven't been tracking Mormonism and Mormon news and current events over the past year or 20 years as it as it may be. |
0:53.0 | And for history sake because at some point someone's going to find, you know, these podcasts in five, 10, 20 years and they're going to want to learn some history. |
1:02.0 | And so for those of you who have been on the equivalent of Mormon Mars or those who have been tracking, you will have heard about a chat in Lori daybell. |
1:12.0 | Sometimes called the doomsday cold couple who were were Mormons who ended up allegedly killing Chad's wife Lori through associates or in some other means a couple of her kids end up dead. |
1:27.0 | At least one X husband if not to end up being killed her brother ends up dying. Of course you've all heard by now of Chad daybell and Lori valo. Maybe you've also heard of Tim Ballard operation on the ground railroad superhero Mormon guy who now is being accused of sexual harassment fraud and all sorts of awful things. |
1:51.0 | Of course we've been trying to cover that here on Mormon stories and it's been covered elsewhere. Maybe you heard about Jody Hildebrand and Ruby Frankie and the passengers disasters that have been discussed as as of late that include Ruby Frank these two of Ruby Frankie's kids literally being abused and it appears to be tortured dehydrated malnourished at the hands of Mormon therapist Jody Hildebrandt. |
2:20.0 | And maybe many of you have heard of Maurice Harker the headline in the song Tribune reads former Utah therapist assaulted patient to rid her of demons charges alleged and and so the thesis that we're putting forward today in the two episodes that we plan on releasing relatively back to back. Here's the thesis. |
2:43.0 | I'm going to I'm going to tribute this thesis ultimately to Lauren Matthias, but I think we've all been also catching on to Lauren's leadership over the past few months and years. |
2:55.0 | The question we're going to ask is what if Chad Debel, Laurie Valet, Tim Ballard, Jody Hildebrandt, Julie Row, Maurice Harker and many other people involved in Mormon prepper mayhem or Mormon prepper chaos, whatever you want to call it, what if they all had a single at least one spiritual mentor or inspiration in common. |
3:20.0 | And what if they all shared some semblance of a spiritual text or scriptural text. That's the first question that we're going to be answering today. |
3:31.0 | What if at least one Mormon apostle approved of this this man's visions and ultimately of his revelations that he shared and then most shockingly, what if the Mormon church knew about this mentor. |
3:49.0 | At least let's just say a decade before all this mayhem and chaos emerged. What if they knew about this mentor, what if they knew about his scripture, and what if instead of punishing him and shutting the book down, they all decided to promote him to be a bishop and to let the book continue to be published that led to the mayhem. |
4:10.0 | In other words, what if the what if the church Mormon church hierarchy were warned ahead of time and chose to do nothing leading to all the disasters that we just talked about. |
4:23.0 | Plus many more that we're all worried are going to be coming down the pike as Mormon neo fundamentalist prepperism is sweeping Mormonism and in some sense the globe. |
4:37.0 | So having today with us in studio is an amazing superstar studded illustrious panel. We have back on Mormon stories podcast. Lauren Matthias. Is that how you go? Is that is that the name you go by these days? Yes, Lauren Matthias. |
