News had just come over.

We had five years left to crying.

You're hearing five years by David Bowie, featuring my guest Mick Woody Woodmansey on drums.

Born in the Northern English city of Drifield,

Woody joined Bowie's band during his formative years and helped propel the group to

international stardom. Woody's compositionally clever, evocative style helped the post-war

generation escape the drudgery of everyday life. Woody and Bowie parted ways in 1973,

but Woody continued to play with artists such as Art Garfunkel,

cybernoughts, screen idols, Dana Gillespie,

and his solo project, U-Boat.

He recently wrote an autobiography

and currently plays with Bowie alum Tony Visconti in the band Holy Holy.

I spoke to him in Soho London, not far from where he cut his teeth with Bowie.
