... You're hearing I Am Here by Savages, featuring my guest Fay Milton on drums.

A classically trained percussionist, Faye's adventurous compositional sensibility, and keen sonic sensitivity

helped Savages become one of the most exciting and critically lauded bands of the last decade.

Aside from her work with Savages, Faye also co-leads 180 dB.

She was also featured in a recent Sky Arts documentary, The Art of Drumming.

I spoke to Fay in Soho, London, after a recent performance with comedian Fred Armisen.

And now my conversation with Fay Milton.

I started playing when I was about eight, I think, but I started playing like orchestral percussion, like xylophones and timpony.

What was the impetus to start?

My best friend started and I did everything she did, so I started as well.

Does your best friend still play?

She still has drums in her house, in her flat, but it's not her job.

She works at London Zoo.

That's her calling in life.

Well, we grew up always sort of playing music together.

I remember us in a recorder group when we were probably about eight or nine.
