This is the Baymaw Podcast with Marty Solomon. I'm his co-host, Brent Billings. Today we continue our review of the chosen with a discussion on the second episode.

Second episode, Brent. I... this is by far my favorite episode of the entire series. Season. Season one. Best, best episode.

Will you are in company with two of the three writers of the show then? Well speaking of writing and I've been thinking about this all day because I didn't want to get overly dramatic or overstate something. And this is just a statement of personal opinion. This is not an objective argument. I'm not prepared to back this up with any external evidence.

This may be like I've been trying to think of something that I'm going to say one of but I have not been able to think of something else up to this point. This is one of if not I think one of the best episode of a series that I have ever seen. It is so well written.

I'm not so wound up about the details of what's going on in the entire episode but the whole plot of this episode, the design of it. It is so good. I keep... I weep every time I watch the end of this episode. I'm now getting worse.

I was like you last week or the last episode. You were just trying to take notes. I was just trying to take notes. I needed some things to talk about today. And I'm full on convulsing at the end of this episode. It's so good. It's so good.

I fully understand your experience. Somehow I'm just taking notes. How much good this... They end of the first episode. The second time around we're taking notes, they hit me harder and then I watched it again. Last night in preparation for this episode, even though it's not strictly necessary. I just watched the first episode again just for kicks.

From the opening scene, it is so good. It is so well designed. Well written. I don't know if I'm just a total sucker but just a fine piece of cinematic production here.

I think that's why this series is getting our attention and our review, our overview, whatever you want to call it. It's really well done.

So, the episode starts off back in 948 BC in Kinaret, which is apparently a four runner to Ganesh Ritz. From what I understand.

It should be if my understand is correct as well. Also, as I was looking into this a little bit trying to figure out what the city was that they were talking about. The Sea of Galilee was apparently named after whatever the most prominent city around it was at various times.

Apparently, it's been called the Sea of Tiberius at times and at one point it was called the Sea of Kinaret. It was correct to illustrate how important it is as a city.

It comes up in the text a few times as well. Apparently, it's mentioned in numbers 34, Deuteronomy 3 and Joshua 11 and 12. You see that.

They're preparing for Shabbat and the little boys asking questions and the mom is explaining how Shabbat works. Eventually, we see the boy catches the first star and they start blessing each other and sharing a meal and whatever.

The thing that kicks it off is they do this Eschite Hyal. Apparently, it's a song, although they weren't singing it in the show. Maybe you can explain what the Eschite Hyal is all about.

The Eschite Hyal, that is Proverbs 31, comes out of that portion of that last chapter of Proverbs. A lot of people know the Proverbs 31 woman, which is so often been just so badly used and abused in biblical interpretation, particularly with Western Christians.

But this is a great way to actually encounter the Eschite Hyal and actually learn what's going on with the Eschite Hyal.

There's a whole bunch of stuff about the scene that I'm not sure you could make the case was historically accurate. We're a thousand years BC to have them wearing prayer shals, to have candles on the table, to have them reciting some of these things, may not have a ton of historical accuracy.

But again, for the design of the episode, just absolutely phenomenal. But the Eschite Hyal at some point in Jewish tradition becomes a very regular Sabbath recitation.

And so it is Eschite Hyal means woman of valor, woman of valor. So a woman of great character, a woman of valor, who can find Eschite Hyal. And there's a list of things that that Proverbs 31 talks about. Now in our culture, we have often talked about like this is a checklist for a beautiful God fearing wife like she has to do all these things to be a good wife of noble character.

And yet that song that portion of Proverbs is not a checklist, but it is a it's a proclamation. It is it is it is extoling.
