Hello and welcome to a special episode of Battleground Ukraine with me, Saul David.

0:17.7

Today I'm talking to young Hungarian journalist Baldassazar Giori, who we met on our

0:22.7

recent trip to Kharkiv and who's been living there for the last five months, right on the edge of the

0:28.3

front lines, just about 25 miles away from the Russian border. But before we talk to Boldie,

0:34.8

just a quick warning to listeners that some of the material is quite

0:38.9

gruesome, dead bodies recover from the battlefield in quite a lot of details, so just beware.

Baldi, welcome to the podcast. Hi, thanks for having me. Now, we met, of course, for the first time

1:07.0

1:15.5

you ended up in Harkiv covering the Ukraine war. Right. So to start at the beginnings, I've

1:22.0

always been fond of history. And when the war started, I immediately sensed just as many around me that really the

1:31.3

veil of history is turning in Ukraine now and I just want to be there and witness it somehow

1:36.8

because it would determine.

1:38.3

Probably a good chunk of my life and what kind of world I will live in and my kids.

1:45.2

And journalism seemed to be a good way to get close to action and witness it.

1:50.7

And it's also a good technique to just process what you were witnessing.

1:57.4

I've never been a trained journalist.

1:59.9

I just went to Julius Strauss, another friend of this podcast,

2:04.3

and asked him to mentor me, which he did for a couple of months after which I set off to Harkiv,
