Fats has created a sanctuary for himself on the city south side.

It's miles away from East Garfield Park where he works trying to prevent shootings by stepping into stopgain conflicts.

He lives with his wife, Tia Strong, and Tia's teenage daughter.

We have the Strong's residents and it's a good neighborhood.

It looks a little different than where you're working in Garfield Park.

It's way different. I get that homie feeling when I get here.

Despite the homie feeling, he's still frequently here's gunshots, not too far off in the distance.

But the modest houses here are well cared for.

He and Tia have a brick bungalow. Buying it was a big decision.

Had him a man, we both said I didn't talk to him like I'm not shacking up again.

You're going to be my wife.

We got to make a decision before we bought his house.

She said I didn't propose. I didn't ask her.

When I asked her mother, a mother said yes.

It was like my proposal, right?

And it just kind of went from there.

We never had a housewarming, so we just made it wet and slashed.
