Well, welcome. It is the month of October in a very special year. It is the year

2017 and this is the 500th anniversary year of the Protestant Reformation and at the end of this month on

October 31st it will be 500 years to the day that Luther nailed the 95 theses to the church door at the castle church,

the Schloss Kirka, in Wittenberg in Germany.

This month, 500 years ago, was the month that started at all.

That started this grand and vast movement of Protestantism that started the reformation that had an impact not only

on church history but on Western history, on world history.

And so to celebrate this month,

which it took 500 years for us to get here,

to celebrate this very special month, we will be doing a five minutes in church history episode every day of this month.

This whole month will be dedicated to the life and the thought and the legacy of Luther

and at the end of the month we will pay special attention to that document that started at all

and to that event of the posting of the 95 theses.

Well, we're also during this month going to be on location for some of these episodes and

we are here on location in Ice Laban.

This is a great town to be on location for Martin Luther, because it turns out Ice Laban

is both the town of his birth and the town of his death.

And in between, of course, is Luther's life.

He was born here on November 10, 1483, and he will die here on February the 18th, 1546. And in between, Luther lived quite a life.

So it's very fitting that as we begin our journey through this month

and as we begin our journey through the life of Luther, we are here in the town of

his birth and the town of his death.
