Summary

In this video, I interview Stephen Meyer about evolution, intelligent design, Darwinianism, the advent of the biological information age, and how it changed the debate about the origins of life. We discuss the questions of what life and mind are, and how pattern and mind are part of and participate in creation.

A former geophysicist and college professor, Stephen C. Meyer now directs Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture in Seattle. He has gained recent popularity about his perspective on evolution and appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

atheists will say, well, humans are the universe knowing itself, right? It's like, yeah,

0:06.0

humans are the universe knowing itself. It means that the universe is intelligent because we're

0:11.1

intelligent. I don't know what to say. It's like, we are part of the universe and we're the place

0:16.1

where intelligence finds its highest form that we know of in the created world, and therefore the universe is

0:22.6

intelligent because it's like if I take your body and I say, well, you're not intelligent

0:28.4

because your fingernail is not intelligent and your thumb's not intelligent and your, you know,

0:32.6

your ear's not intelligent, but Stephen Meyer is intelligent, that's the same with the universe.

0:38.3

It's like the universe is intelligent because we're intelligent.

0:41.3

I know that might have convinced a bunch of atheists, but it just seems like there's a way in which often I've noticed that

0:48.3

atheists tend to abstract themselves from the reality and not consider the place of man in the cosmos.

0:57.0

Whereas in the biblical cosmology, the human is placed in a very particular place in the middle of the whole system

1:03.0

and is given to name the animals, like is given to continue that process of information that happens in creation. The place of knowledge in the world is the human person.

1:14.6

This is Jonathan Peugeot. Welcome to the symbolic world.

1:30.3

So hello everyone. I'm here with Stephen Meyer.

1:42.3

Many of you will know Stephen Meyer. He is a scientist involved in the question of intelligent design. He's written several books, the signature in the cell, Darwin's Doubt. But he's come on my, let's say closer to my attention recently because I've noticed that he's been getting more and more attention.

2:01.6

You know, I saw a few years ago talk between himself and Berlinski and another mathematician

2:08.6

talking about, you know, kind of opposition to Darwin or questions about Darwin on the Hoover

2:12.6

Institution and millions of views on that. And then recently Joe Rogan and then Pierce Morgan.

2:18.6

And so it seems to me that there is an interesting shift

2:21.2

in the willingness of people to engage

2:23.8

with the question of intelligent design.

2:25.4

And so that's what I want to talk to Steve about.
