Summary

On March 13th, 1964, 28-year-old Kitty Genovese was heading home from work in the early morning hours.  After parking her car, she was making the short walk to her apartment when she heard footsteps behind her.  When she attempted to flee, the man followed her and attacked.  After someone saw them and yelled out, the attacker left.  However, he returned and attacked Kitty for a second time.  Though there were several witnesses who heard something, only two had made a call to police.  The amount of witnesses was exaggerated and the details and facts of Kitty’s murder were incorrectly reported.  However, Kitty’s death has resulted in several studies, laws, and the unified 911 system.
