Overview

We could tell you about our show, but in the words of LeVar Burton, "don't take our word for it!" Here is an actual listener's description of the show: "Think Cher Horowitz meets Dolly Parton... create a love child. Then THAT person meets Bill Kurtis.... and two random girls are the product of that.... that's Tyrella and Tori (sisters and hosts). Smart, weird, pretty, blonde, hilarious, southern, and just really okay with being themselves.... even when it is weird. It made me realize [they] became their role models without even meaning to." Give it a try if you like ANY of those people and/or a lighter take on your True Crime! For bonus episodes and premium content, find us on Patreon!

370: The Disappearance of Madalina Cojocari (Unsolved)

On December 15th, 2022, Diana Cojocari arrived for a scheduled meeting at her daughter’s middle school with the guidance counselor in Cornelius, North Carolina. Her 11-year-old daughter, Madalina, hadn’t been to school in more than 3 weeks. Diana had promised to bring Madalina with her to the meeting, but she came alone. It didn’t take long for school officials to realize that something was wrong. Madalina was missing, and her mother and stepfather never reported her disappearance to police until that day at the school. What followed has been an investigation littered with inconsistent timelines, conflicting statements, and strange behavior, none of which have led to Madalina’s whereabouts. Law enforcement continues to search for the now-teenager, fully believing that she could possibly still be alive. Want access to our first 45 episodes? Grab em here! In 1986 in a small town in Massachusetts, the Bowen family was grieving the loss of their mother and wife after a battle with cancer.  The two teenage girls spent a lot of time in the home alone while their father, Frank, was at work.  They began hearing noises in their home and thought that their house was haunted.  It turned out that a boy the eldest daughter had dated was living in their walls and watching them.  After being caught and subsequently released less than a year later, Daniel LaPlante murdered a pregnant woman and her two young children while burglarizing their home.  Want access to our first 45 episodes? 367: April Fools Pranks Gone Wrong

Before we get into some foolish April Fools pranks that didn’t quite land, let’s talk about the origin of April Fools Day.  The oldest historical reference for April Fools Day comes from a Flemish poem written in 1561 about a nobleman who sent his servant on “fool’s errands” on April 1st.  In about the same era in France, the people were slow to adapt to the calendar change from the last week of March to January 1st to mark the new year.  It was a move from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar that was decreed by the Council of Trent.  Those who struggled to adjust were called “April fools,” and many began playing tricks on them.  Another reference is with the Catholic Church.  In medieval France and England, a carnival of sorts, called “Feast of Fools” was held on January 1st, but was banned by the 15th century.  Though, it was still held for hundreds of years, despite the ban.  Then by the 19th century, April Fools’ Day was a part of American culture.  Mark Twain was quoted as saying, “The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year.”  Want access to our first 45 episodes? 365: The Murder of Kitty Genovese and the Implementation of 911

On March 13th, 1964, 28-year-old Kitty Genovese was heading home from work in the early morning hours.  After parking her car, she was making the short walk to her apartment when she heard footsteps behind her.  When she attempted to flee, the man followed her and attacked.  After someone saw them and yelled out, the attacker left.  However, he returned and attacked Kitty for a second time.  Though there were several witnesses who heard something, only two had made a call to police.  The amount of witnesses was exaggerated and the details and facts of Kitty’s murder were incorrectly reported.  However, Kitty’s death has resulted in several studies, laws, and the unified 911 system. In the 1980s, NYPD detectives Louis Eppolito and Stephen Caracappa secretly worked for the mafia while on the force, betraying their badge in exchange for cash. 361: The Kidnapping and Murder of Exxon Exec Sidney Reeso

In April of 1992, Exxon executive Sidney Reso left for work like he did every day.  When his car was discovered running in his driveway, the police and FBI were called.  They quickly began an investigation into Sidney’s disappearance, which they learned was an abduction.  After cooperating with the kidnappers and getting together the 18.5 million dollar ransom though, the kidnappers began to make sporadic contact, often days and weeks between phone calls.  This lasted for 51 days before a break which led the kidnappers right to the FBI, and we ultimately found out what happened to Sidney Reso.  Want access to our first 45 episodes? 360: Amber Dubois and Chelsea King

On February 13th, 2009, 14-year-old Amber Dubois disappeared into thin air on her way to school in San Diego County, California. There were credible leads or sightings, and it seemed as though Amber was just…gone. Almost exactly one year later, 17-year-old Chelsea King went for a run in a well-populated park, just ten miles from where Amber disappeared, and never returned. Clothing belonging to Chelsea was found nearby and a DNA match was found, leading detectives to a registered sex offender by the name of John Albert Gardner. Who was Gardner, and was he responsible for more than just Chelsea’s disappearance? Had he, just one year prior, abducted Amber Dubois off the street on her way to school?  Want access to our first 45 episodes? Grab em here! We've made them available for free to anyone who signs up! 353: Recap of Sarah Boone Trial: Suitcase Killer Who Caught Herself On Video

UPDATE: She has been sentenced to life in prison since the time of this recording. On the afternoon of Monday, February 24th, 2020, first responders in Winter Park, Florida arrived at an apartment complex to find 42-year-old Jorge Torres Jr. dead inside of the apartment he shared with girlfriend, Sarah Boone. Jorge was unfortunately past the point of being able to be revived and was pronounced dead on scene. Homicide detectives arrived on scene to question Sarah, who told them a strange tale of what happened and how she’d “accidentally” left her boyfriend zipped up inside of a suitcase, then fell asleep. However, detectives soon recovered evidence on Sarah’s own cell phone that proved that Jorge’s death may not have been a tragic accident after all. This episode discusses an overview of the case and recaps the trial which was broadcast live in 2024. *This is a condensed version of a longer video available on our Patreon. In September of 2004, Mary Lou Jones called one of her daughter’s friends in Florida, concerned that she had gone several days without hearing from her daughter Michelle. Michelle and her aunt Teri had been savagely murdered by Teri’s husband, Charlie Brandt. Charlie then took his own life. 350: The Murder of Josh Niles and Amber Washburn

A former police chief orchestrates the cold-blooded murder of his wife's ex and his new girlfriend in a twisted custody battle that rocked a small New York town. When Josh Niles and Amber Washburn were gunned down in their driveway, no one suspected the mastermind was Tim Dean - an ex-police chief who crossed state lines to commit murder at his wife's behest. This chilling true crime case reveals how a custody dispute spiraled into deadly violence when Charlene Childers lost her children due to her new husband's abuse allegations. Despite her tearful appearances at vigils and funerals, Charlene had orchestrated the entire plot, manipulating her police chief husband to eliminate her custody problem permanently. Watch as investigators unravel an inept murder conspiracy involving rental cars, crossed jurisdictions, and a trail of evidence that led straight back to a former top cop who should have known better. This shocking story proves that sometimes the most dangerous criminals are the ones sworn to uphold the law. 330: The REAL Lizzie Borden Story

We all know the rhyme, “Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother forty whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41,” right? It’s something most children in America say to scare their little sister or when having a sleepover with friends before saying Bloody Mary three times in the mirror. Despite the popularity of the rhyme and the crime, Lizzie Borden was acquitted of the murders. To this day, people remain divided on Lizzie’s guilt, but the one thing we know for sure is that despite the murders having happened over 130 years ago, it remains in infamy. Amityville Horror: Part 2

You’ve no doubt heard of “The Amityville Horror” before. From a bestselling book to a multi-million dollar film franchise, the story has captured the world's attention from the instant it was reported. The quiet Long Island town was rocked when the DeFeo family was brutally murdered while they slept. The Lutz family purchased and moved into their home following their deaths, but only stayed for 28 days before fleeing in terror in the night.
