Summary

Following the American-Oneida victory at Fort Stanwix rifts grow deeper within the Six Nations. Over three-hundred members of the Haudenosaunee gather at Albany for a Conference. Just as it finishes however word arrives that Burgoyne's British army has crossed the Hudson River at Saratoga.

0:17.8	And welcome to our fifth installment on the American Revolutionary War. What are we
0:22.6	titling this episode, Andrew? We're going to keep it simple, and we're going to go with Saratoga.
0:27.8	Now, when we started doing this series, Andrew, we had the past four episodes. We thought we could
0:34.0	cover it in one episode. And here we are our our fifth episode so we're kind of lagging behind
0:38.3	a little bit but i think it's good we get to cover a whole bunch of great detail on these battles
0:43.6	and troop movements and the political situation and especially what's going on back with the six
0:48.7	nations which are kind of in an upheaval right now we left left off last time where the British had been repulsed
0:55.7	from Fort Stanwyx, thanks to the help of the Oneida town of Arisca. And so Barry St. Ledger,
1:01.7	the British commander, and his forces are fleeing back to Lake Ontario after they heard
1:06.5	false reports that Americans led by Benedict Arnold were on their way. So St. Ledger's new plan is to
1:13.2	travel north back into Canada and then go around south, down Lake Champlain to Taiconderoga to
1:19.7	meet back up with Burgoyne. But you're going to find out that he's not going to make it in time.
1:24.7	Joseph Brandt is not going back with St. Ledger, however. Joseph Brandt is the
1:29.5	captain of the Mohawk forces who had been going along with St. Ledger to try and recapture the
1:35.4	Mohawk Valley, but he's got some bones to pick. You see, during this whole commotion, the Mohawk
1:41.6	camp was raided by soldiers at Fort Stanwicks and a ton of their supplies were
1:46.2	stolen. Brant is really irate, especially at the Oneida people who have joined with these traitorous
1:52.8	Americans and it's too much for him. Well, you have to remember, Andrew, a lot of these Indian warriors,
1:58.5	Brant had told them, we are going to go and raid these people's goods while
2:03.3	they'll be out fighting. And basically, the complete opposite ended up happening to them. So this
2:08.0	makes Brant really look bad in the eyes of the warriors when they come back and everything
