Summary

Forty-one members of the Oneida Nation traveled to Valley Forge, PA in the Spring of 1778. General George Washington greeted each individual in person and warmly. The warriors went on to assist the Marquis de Lafayette at the Battle of Barren Hill and Polly Cooper an Oneida woman brings her experience as a cook and healer to the needy Continental Army. 0:22.8	in the American Revolution. This episode, we're going to be covering Valley Forge. We're getting to the
0:28.5	point in the story where we're actually going to meet George Washington and some of the characters
0:33.3	that you actually think of when you think of the American Revolution. So let's set the picture for you all.
0:38.7	It's the autumn of 1777.
0:41.1	The Oneida and Tuscarora Nations have just helped the Patriots repeal a massive British invasion from General John Burgoyne.
0:49.0	At Fort Stanwix?
0:50.2	At Fort Stanwicks and Saratoga.
0:51.8	This war between the brothers, as the Six Nations call it, has divided the Confederacy.
0:57.2	It's now in shambles.
0:58.8	And this week we're going to talk about how they try and hold it together.
1:01.5	And then we're going to catch up and see what George Washington's been up to this past year.
1:04.8	Because as Caleb said, we really haven't been talking about what he's been doing.
1:09.0	First, let's talk about the Six Nations. In the past four months,
1:12.6	we've seen an Iroquois Civil War breakout with the Mohawk Seneca and Kuga on one side and the
1:18.3	Tuscarora and Anita on the other. That's right. Joseph Brandt has gathered his Mohawk warriors
1:22.7	and he has gone in and actually attacked Oneida villages, killing and capturing people there and burning
1:28.7	their village. And then the Oneida and other Aroquois nations have been going to retaliate
1:33.5	against the Mohawk. Now right before Burgoyne's defeat at Saratoga, General Schuyler and the
1:39.0	Oneida attempted a peace conference at Onondaga. Skyler wrote feverish invitations to try and get all the
1:46.6	nations to come and try and hammer out their differences because what the Patriots really want
1:50.5	is for the six nations to stay out of this war so that they don't have to worry about their
