Summary

For too long, many Christians have heard and believed the misconception that living in God’s freedom and redemption means they’ll never struggle with sin or temptation. This is one of the things the Bible is pretty clear on. The heroes of the faith like Paul, David, Moses, and Abraham loved and new God and still lived imperfectly.

Maybe it’s time for us to recognize that being saved doesn’t mean we’ll never sin again, but that it means we’re on a journey of loving Jesus, pursuing Him, falling short and returning to Him.

This week’s podcast guest, Lina Abujamra, knows this well. She joins Juli to talk about what it looks like to spend a lifetime struggling with lust and sexual temptation, and still choose Jesus.

All right, we're going to dive deep. Let me ask you a personal question.

0:18.1

Do you ever feel like you have to hide your sexual sin and struggle?

0:22.1

And maybe that's because you think that if you're a Christian,

0:25.6

you're not supposed to battle lust or sexual temptation and certainly not fall into sin. And so that shame

0:31.6

keeps you in a place of hiding and trying to pretend like you haven't altogether when really you are desperate for a safe and authentic community.

0:40.0

Well, if that's you, here's some truth you need to know. Being saved doesn't mean that

0:46.3

you're never going to make mistakes or you will stop needing God's mercy,

0:49.9

grace, and redemption. You just look at the lives of people like the apostle Paul who love God,

0:55.7

was totally dedicated to him, but he writes about experiencing an ongoing

1:00.4

thorn in his flesh.

1:02.2

Or how about David, who obviously loved God? He wrote

1:05.4

Psalm after Psalm pouring out his worshiped him, but he still fell into sexual

1:10.5

sin and experienced some pretty severe consequences of that. So that makes us ask,

1:16.1

what does it look like to love Jesus, to want to pursue him, but be in the midst of a struggle

1:22.1

perhaps with sexual sin.

1:24.0

What does it look like to need to go back to him again and again

1:27.8

for redemption and forgiveness?

1:30.1

Well, my guest this week is ER, author, and teacher,

1:34.4

Lena Abu Jamra, who has spent most of her adult life

1:37.8

battling lust and sexual struggles.
