Summary

In the latest edition of Marshall and Steve Teles of the Niskanen Center and Johns Hopkins University discussion series, they discuss reasons behind Kamala Harris's loss to Donald Trump, the debate over whether Kamala should have gone on the Joe Rogan Experience, whether 2010s-2022 "wokeness" fatally wounded Democrats, what a successful 2028 nominee needs to learn from 2024, and of course, a shoutout to the Abundance Agenda.

Marshall and Steve here. Welcome back to the realignment. So this is the promised election reaction show. It's coming out on Friday because on Thursday I did a Marshall monologue. But Steve, you know, this is part of our sort of monthly or so. We've been a little more than monthly, so I appreciate the time you're dedicating to this work

from that perspective here. But this is going to start with a first section on accountability.

0:28.0

I was wrong. I think you were wrong. Let's just kind of start there when it came to calling the election.

0:33.1

Yeah. So this is the new republic used to have its recriminations issue after every election.

0:40.9

And so, yeah, so election night, I actually sent you what in retrospect looks like a very implausible election map.

0:51.6

And the thing I'll say is literally up until the day of the election, I was saying that I

1:00.2

thought Kamala was going to get wiped out. And then I just couldn't, my nerve couldn't take it.

Michigan and Wisconsin. I actually called Pennsylvania for Trump, which looks pretty good now.

But I think just in the end, the thing I learned is that I should have stuck to my guns

1:35.9

and should have stuck to what I thought.

1:39.4

And in retrospect, I should also say, my take on Harris is that I always thought she was a terrible

1:46.4

candidate, and I told everybody I could, that especially after she was replaced, there was a

1:55.0

sudden vibe thing where everybody had to actually say that I see Harris was great. And part of it is before

2:02.9

Biden got replaced, people needed to shift to believing that Harris was great because they

2:09.9

needed to believe that in order to get Biden out of the way. So if they thought that Harris was really

2:15.3

bad, it was going to be harder to say that Biden needed to step down.

2:21.0

And I, for a while, have always been saying, you know, no more Massachusetts, California candidates, right?

2:29.8

We've done that.

2:31.0

It didn't seem to have worked out.

2:33.4

We should just not do that ever again, because I think
