What's going on in the world seems to be pretty intense at the moment.

People have asked me if I was going to do a Roma about this.

I'm going to do probably dozens of Roma about this because it's not ending anytime soon.

It definitely feels like we're spinning out into something totally different.

Like we are in the beginning stages of collapse. And I mean the beginning of the end,

not the beginning of the beginning. The beginning of the beginning, that's a question.

When did all this start?

What is this the culmination of?

Because it definitely feels like a culmination of something.

You know, when you're talking about history, you can always choose the beginning points.

You can frame tendencies and trajectories any way you want.

You can say this started with Ronald Reagan, which is probably what I would say 1980, I think was a turning point in

American history.

But you could just as easily argue that Ronald Reagan and the whole Christian conservative

movement of the 80s, which set out to pretty much bankrupt the government

or at least came in saying the government is the problem

and so what you need are anti-government people in the government

to rein it in.

Okay, but you could say, well, that was a reaction to the hippies

and the sort of regulatory flourishing of the 60s under Johnson

with his great society programs and, you know, attempts to address racial injustice and
