Last week, Terrell Owens announced what the Pro Football Hall of Fame described as the unprecedented

decision to not attend the enshrined festivities in Canton, Ohio in August.

In his official statement, Owens expressed his gratitude for the support of his family,

friends, and fans throughout his NFL career.

He said he was humbled by the response to his election and to the Hall of Fame and he's honored to be included among the group of fellow inducted individuals.

It's an honor he said that he will cherish forever.

He thanked the 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills, and

Bengals and said he was thankful for the relationships forged and the lessons

learned while part of those teams. As for his reasoning and become in the first

Hall of Famer to decide to not attend the induction ceremony, Owen stated and I quote,

while I am incredibly appreciative of this opportunity I have made the decision to publicly

decline my invitation to attend the induction ceremony in Canton.

I have already shared this information with the hall.

After visiting Canton earlier this year, I came to the realization that I wished to

celebrate what will be one of the most memorable days of my life
