Today we complete our journey through the fifth chapter of Matthew,

surveying the many examples Jesus gives for properly interpreting the text.

Jesus has been in the middle of a sermon, if you will,

starting with a bunch of pronouncements after seeing a diverse crowd of people,

a bunch of people who most even his disciples probably would think,

well, they don't belong. Maybe Matthew thought maybe they belonged.

I wonder if Matthew said they're watching some of this crowd going,

wait a minute, do they? I got a second chance. Do they get a second chance?

At any rate, this is a whole bunch of crowd of people that most would say,

no, they don't get second chances. But Jesus pulls his disciples to him and

maybe in the earshot of crowds, he says, hey, the kingdom of God is four of these people.

The people that you don't think fit is actually the very people that the kingdom

God is four and is going to work through. And if you understand this and you pursue this,

you're going to be persecuted. But blessed are you and you're persecuted because they

persecuted the prophets in the same way before you. But you are going to be a city on a hill.

You are going to be the light of the world. You're going to be the hope of the world because you

are going to bring the hope and the good news that you on, Gellion, of kingdom,

Shalom into people's chaos. And so you are going to be, you are going to be the hope.

And we suggested last podcast. People's response to this probably was, well, wait a minute.

Does that mean you're throwing it all out the window? Are we doing some totally brand new?
