Since 1981, one event has dominated elementary school recess conversation, the Scholastic Book Fair.

You know what I'm talking about for a precious few days each fall, school, libraries, gyms, and

cafeterias transform into many bookstores. Scholastic says it runs about 120,000 book fairs each year,

and shares profits with schools generating $200 million in contributions.

Well, Scholastic's hallmark event is now under the spotlight. After weeks of rumors and speculation,

Scholastic made a big announcement earlier this month. Its elementary school bookfares would now have

a separate section for titles that deal with race, gender, and sexuality.

Schools can choose to include the separate catalog called, quote, share every story, celebrate

every voice in its book fair, or exclude it. Additionally, schools can choose to sell some titles rather
