When it comes to Greek life at the College of Charleston,

many students will go to great lengths.

For Mikey Schmidt, the school's campus,

lined with shady oak trees and Spanish moss,

offered the opportunity for a fresh start.

As a small child who hadn't quite hit his growth spurt in high school,

Mikey hoped to join one of the elite fraternities at the College of Charleston.

However, without the right background and without the right connections,

Mikey wasn't able to join one of the elite fraternities.

Instead, he joined what was considered a mid-tier fraternity, Kappa Alpha, or K-A. There, Mikey formed brotherly friendship

with the fraternity's president. The two bonded over cars, video games, and most importantly, drugs.

The fraternity itself did not have a lot of funds, meaning they lacked the influence and

resources to host the kinds of parties on campus that the more popular fraternities could.
