0:11.0

and writer, Dami Kaleen. We discuss living with ADHD, getting diagnosed and how this is

0:16.7

impacted her timeline. I really hope you enjoy listening and as always please do rate

So Dami, tell me, when did you get diagnosed with ADHD?

0:36.4

So I was diagnosed just over a year ago, something that was January last year. Yeah, so I was diagnosed

0:45.0

with ADHD in a tentative type after having to speak with my psychiatrist and doing many,

0:51.2

many, many forms and waiting but yeah, and then I was able to start medication luckily a few months later than that.

0:58.8

And when did you first start to think that maybe it was ADHD that you had?

1:05.0

I don't think there was necessarily a specific moment where I realised I think there'd been a period of time,

1:39.6

The weird thing is that my sister was diagnosed with ADHD when she was nine years old but she was diagnosed with

1:46.0

combined type ADHD and I think there was more of a heavy focus on the hyperactive aspect of it.

1:52.8

So that was my view of ADHD so I'd never really considered before 2021 that I would have it because I just thought that's what ADHD looks like.

2:02.4

And you know, when I was trying to speak about it with my family, you know, that my mum was a bit skeptical or she was like, hmm, I don't think so because again,

2:08.4

her view was of what my sister had.

2:10.3

So we were all quite surprised actually when the diagnosis came back that I did have it.

2:15.0

It's really interesting you said that you realised you're seeing it through TikTok because I actually went to the GP and said,

2:20.6

look, I've got all of these reasons why I bit like you.
